Thank You

Words can't express how much I want to thank everyone for their incredible support. We fought the good fight until the very end. In a crowded field, Joe Walsh was able to prevail and came away victorious. We wish him much success in the general election and we will work hard to see that he returns the 8th district to its conservative roots. God bless and thank you all so very much.

Your Vote

Maria RodriguezThis is it - you now head to the polls to select who will face Melissa Bean this fall.

I am asking for your vote

We have an historic opportunity. The Democrats have dramatically misjudged the American people. They thought we were ready to abandon our roots and wanted to become more like socialist Europe.

They were wrong.

Many pundits talk about the "Obama Agenda." However, in recent days, the President's lack of leadership has really told us a different story.

What's become clear since the State of the Union address is that the "Obama Agenda" isn't ruling Washington. The President isn't leading at all. He's left it to Congress to lead.

Which means it is the Nancy Pelosi agenda that is ruling our nation.

While the President isn't up for election again until 2012, we can join with Americans from across the nation to stop the Nancy Pelosi agenda dead in its tracks this year.

What's our part? Send Melissa Bean back to Barrington.

As both a business owner AND the only candidate to win four out of four elections, I have the experience it will take to send Melissa Bean packing.

But to do that, we have to win on Tuesday.

Vote for me, Maria Rodriguez, on February 2. And together, we will take our country back again.

Thank you. Onward to Victory!

Rodriguez best bet to beat Bean in fall

Daily HeraldAfter learning more about each candidate and attending two debates, I have come to the obvious conclusion that Maria Rodriguez is the strongest candidate for Congress in the 8th District Republican primary.

What separates her from the rest of the pack is not her position on the issues. All of the candidates running are conservatives who are virtually indistinguishable from one another on the issues. Rather, Maria Rodriguez is the candidate Republicans can most confidently expect to unseat Melissa Bean this November.

Unlike her opponents, Rodriguez has demonstrated her strong appeal to voters in several previous elections. As a local mother of three, she did not like how things were being run in her community, and not unlike Sarah Palin, she decided to do something about it. She ran for mayor against an incumbent politician and to the surprise of the local establishment, she won that race by a substantial margin. She remains so popular with voters that she ran unopposed in her last election.

The other candidates in the race either remain untested or bring too many liabilities with them. Dirk Beveridge and Chris Geissler are both well spoken, but have never run for office so their ability to appeal to voters remains unseen. Joe Walsh is a tested candidate, but voters have rejected him at the ballot box in two previous races. Walsh would also be easy for Bean to paint as a flip-flopper since his positions on issues like abortion or gun control have changed back and forth depending on the politics of the area in which he was running.

So Maria Rodriguez is the obvious choice. She is a strong conservative who has demonstrated her appeal to voters and she is the only candidate Republicans can confidently expect to beat Melissa Bean in November.

Quote of the Day - Tom Gooch

Tom Gooch"Maria is the only candidate with experience.  Rather than starting at the top, she started in local government where she learned how to deal with constituent problems and help taxpayers.  Maria has earned her spurs in a sometimes thankless job.  She is the right candidate to help us in Washington.  Let's send her there."

Discontent and Anger Motivate Voters

The New York TimesOn Jan. 23, about 65 people went to the wood-paneled Gurnee American Legion Hall for a Republican candidates’ event sponsored by the Northern Illinois Patriots, a Tea Party group. Among them were Amy and Jesse Moore of Zion, who have a 2-year-old daughter and a mortgage they struggle to pay.

“We are wondering, Where is our money going?” said Mrs. Moore, 28, a self-described staunch pro-life voter. “What are we paying taxes for?”

Mr. Moore, 28, lost his job in 2005, but quickly found work in Lake Bluff as a machinist. Mrs. Moore is a full-time mother. They said they considered themselves lucky even though their home had plummeted in value in the six years since they bought it.

“We wish we had never bought the house,” Mrs. Moore said. “We’re stuck now.”

She leaned forward in her seat as the candidates, including Dan Proft, a contender for governor, and Maria Rodriguez, the hopeful for the Eighth Congressional District, spoke and fielded questions about the economy, protecting gun rights and their plans to clean up corruption in a state where one in five former governors in the past century have wound up behind bars.
